MAKING the STUFF
till it all makes sense

Jamie Thompson is from North Tyneside & has always felt the uncontrollable itch of needing to make stuff; writing stories, inventing games, drawing monsters, and eventually coming into his teens, finding the most fun thing ever to shove all this creative potential into, in music.

Musical inspirations could hardly come from wider sources: from his Dad’s 80s DJing days & chill BBQ playlists, Mam’s love for Whitesnake, & brother’s Dubstep tunes, to the soundtracks from the games he and his brothers played growing up, he names the Bandicoot spin-off Crash Team Racing, Sonic The Hedgehog (for SEGA), Guitar Hero 3 & The music from The Sims games as some standouts.

Since picking up the bass, after watching his later band as a 3-piece come second to none other than Sam Fender’s band at the school talent competition, Jamie has been on a journey through genre, Classic Rock of Led Zeppelin, ACDC & Foo Fighters, into punk of The Clash, The Jam & Green Day, to Motown & the bass-playing of James Jameson at college and finally taking a shine to Jazz & film scores before starting to swirl this shuffling sundry stew into his own musical identity, along with whatever else on Spotify had aurally fixated him through the years.

Struggling to pin this down as a one-word genre, he describes the music only as: Laptop Alt Rock (though he does enjoy the term Jazzpunk) with added flavours from all over the musical globe, prominently featuring Bass Guitar (his comfortable home base), cool surprising harmony, weird musical structures or timings, genuine lyrics, & semi-confident vocal performance.

After their first single Don’t Sit In The Sun, the pandemic interrupted his brief project Goliath Child after his first-ever singing gig. Leading to the creation of his first solo album “Some Thoughts” during lockdown. Having put in all of the work to fully create and produce this project from scratch, he now feels ready to really push this music out to other human souls & has recently started a schedule of fully releasing at least one original song every single month, commencing with September 23’s single “MAKE the STUFF” (+ instrumental B-side “flowers”), & October’s Halloween-themed short story “The Spooky Shuffle”.
